Entrance Requirements
Students are accepted for enrollment with a limit of twenty (20 ) students per senior instructor per new class. (100 students total enrollment.) Therefore, maximum ratio: 20 students per 1 senior instructor. Enrollment dates are scheduled every February, June and September. The school admits as regular students: applicants who are at least 17 years of age and possess a high school diploma or a high school graduation equivalency certificate (GED). Students must pass the cosmetology aptitude test furnished by the school. This College, in its admission, instruction and graduation policies, practices no discrimination on the basis of sex, race or color, ethnic origin, age, or religion.
College Attendance Policies
Black Hills Beauty College operates continuously throughout the year except for the following holidays: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. Students are expected to attend on Saturday as that is the day when the most clinic practice is available and when the students get the best experience in working quickly and efficiently. Unexpected school closures due to extenuating circumstances will be broadcast on local radio stations. Professional conduct and regular attendance are expected. Students must have permission to be absent from school or to leave the school at any given time. For absences to be excused, they must be approved by an instructor or by a school official. Unexcused absences are when a student is not in school and no arrangements had been made prior to the absence.
Graduation Requirement
Each student must complete the minimum requirements listed under “Curriculum” and attend college to comply with requirements listed under “Rules and Regulations.” A student must achieve an average grade of 80% in theory and an average grade of 80% during the training period in practical subjects to receive a diploma from the college. No Certificate of Attendance will be granted.
